The 4th medical mission to Virac took place last June 3-7, 2002 with some 150 volunteers from the United States, Canada and the Philippines. It was a labor of love, dedication and hard work for all the volunteers who shared their precious time and money to render medical assistance to the thousands of medically deprived people of our province. The volunteers cheerfully did their jobs despite the not so favorable weather condition (hot and humid). Each carried out their duty with compassion, caring and understanding for every patient they see. In return their satisfaction in seeing the sparkle of gratitude in the eyes of those they helped was immeasurable. Statistics showed that 3,419 patients were treated in the following departments.
Pediatrics.............799
Medical................920
OB-GYN.................52
Surgery................71 (major)
99 (minor)
Opthalmology...........251
Dental.................417
Physical Therapy.......920
There were ups and downs in the planning stages of the mission but with the
dynamic leadership of its president, Nilo Arcilla, his wife Amy , their children
and all the officers, the mission was very successfully accomplished.I believe
that when the motivation is to do something good for others who are in dire
need, Divine assistance never fails.
The appreciation and hospitality of the people of Catanduanes were demonstrated
by the sumptuous dinners and receptions hosted by Gov. Leandro Verceles, Congressman
Joseph Santiago, Mayors, Joseph Cua and Josito Alberto, EBMC Staff, civic-minded
people like Mrs. Conching Co, the family of the late Felizardo Santelices, Ms.
Alice Vargas, Attys. Jose and Irene Samonte, Nol and Emily Arcilla, some officers
of the CIA,Inc...Nilo & Amy Arcilla, Joe & Baby Guerrero, Pines &
Ruben Aguilar and Edna & Ed Valderrama.
Each day of the mission starts with a 7:00 o'clock mass at the hospital chapel.
Thanks to Mons. Jose Molina who so graciously allowed the following priests
to celebrate the daily masses...Fr. Sid Jose Sanchez, Fr. Joey Tendenilla, Fr.
Juan Lizaso, Fr. Constantino Soriao, and Fr. Randy De Quiroz.
